Birthday
We couldn't be more proud to introduce the latest member of the Calvert Clan
- MILO!!!!
Milo Ross Hunt Calvert was born on Tuesday, March 24, 2009 at
9:53am. He weighed in at 8lbs 12oz!
Like his brother, Milo decided to make his appearance after his expected due date. He was predicted to be born on March 19th, but he clearly had visions of being an Aries unlike the rest of the Calvert Pisces.
It all started innocently enough. I woke in the early hours of Tuesday morning and felt it beginning...contractions. I waited a few minutes and then gave Craig a poke at about 3:45am to share the news. We were on our way to "babygeddan part deux". We chatted about it for a while and then agreed that we were done sleeping! So, we trundled off to the basement to eat some breakfast and watch a little TV. We had been told that labour could be faster with a second child and that we should probably come to the hospital when the contractions were still a little further apart (5 to 7 minutes as opposed to 3 to 5 minutes). From the get-go my contractions seemed to range between 4 and 6 minutes. We talked about and decided that after we got Kaden up at 7am and made sure he and Nanna and Poppa were organized we would go to the hospital to get assessed. Worst case they would send us home. Good thing we went.
We left for the hospital just after 8am. By the time we go to the hospital just before 9am I was most definitely in "active labour". The hospital was apparently very busy with many other babies who decided March 24th sounded like a lovely day to be born. We managed to get into an assessment bed after not too long. Good thing we did.
Turns out I was already 5cm dilated. Who knew?! Despite being very busy, a delivery room and nurse were available so they quickly wheeled us down the hall to a room they affectionately refer to as "the closet". By that point I was assessed again and now I was 8cm! Yikes. By 9:48am the doctor was in the room to prep his catcher's mitt and 5 minutes later Milo was on the scene!
Craig laughs that we went through all the same stages as we did with Kaden's delivery, but at over 6 times the speed! Phew.
Nanna and Poppa brought Kaden to the hospital to meet his new baby brother later that day. He was so happy to see him..."there's Milo!" He repeated it over and over as he pointed and smiled at his little baby bro (this of course was after he came in the room and said (as I predicted)..."go back to elevator!").
We've attached a few pictures and videos from Milo's first day. We'll add a few more soon to wrap up the rest of our hospital stay...and of course continue to add to all the Calvert shenanigans. Enjoy and we look forward to introducing you to our newest little man soon!
Fresh on the scene...
Hello Milo!
Milo mewing.
By the evening we had been moved into a private room and we
had some quality time with just the three of us. We managed to catch a few hours
of sleep and spent the following morning chilling at the hospital. We got the
final 'ok' from the pediatrician, dressed Milo in his first official outfit, and
were on our way home for lunch.
